*NEW DATE* BLOSSOM: plant poetry hike

sunday september 3rd from 10am-4pm @ santa barbara campground: vadito , nm or somewhere close by….

PEONIES by MARY OLIVER

This morning the green fists of the peonies are getting ready

to break my heart

as the sun rises,

as the sun strokes them with his old, buttery fingers and they open —

pools of lace,

white and pink —

and all day the black ants climb over them, boring their deep and mysterious holes

into the curls,

craving the sweet sap,

taking it awayto their dark, underground cities —

and all day

under the shifty wind,

as in a dance to the great wedding,

the flowers bend their bright bodies,
and tip their fragrance to the air,
and rise,
their red stems holding

all that dampness and recklessness
gladly and lightly,
and there it is again —
beauty the brave, the exemplary,

blazing open.
Do you love this world?
Do you cherish your humble and silky life?
Do you adore the green grass, with its terror beneath?

Do you also hurry, half-dressed and barefoot, into the garden,
and softly,
and exclaiming of their dearness,
fill your arms with the white and pink flowers,

with their honeyed heaviness, their lush trembling,
their eagerness
to be wild and perfect for a moment, before they are
nothing, forever?

come together for a plant poetry hike in the pecos wilderness - this special day we will immerse ourselves in flower plant friends, water, mountain airs and strengthen our communication and connection to place and sing their praises in collaborative creation!

we will spend the day hiking to a beautiful large subalpine meadow and participate in poetic prompts and relational writing exercises along the way. this hike is about six miles long - uphill and sometimes rocky terrain on a well managed trail.

payment plans and pay what you can available, any questions at all please email me at sssnakeroot@gmail.com

G-GUSH: SEASONAL LYMPHATICS WORKSHOP

G-GUSH: SEASONAL LYMPHATICS WORKSHOP

Lessons in anatomy, manual drainage and herbal accompaniments.

Spring is a big transition time, the seasonal shift from death to life and the sap rises in the trees and starts to flow. Wild spring greens stick their tiny heads up through the wintered soil and offer their bitter tonic sweetness. The ice melts and the rivers gush - the acequias are tended and debris cleared out, the waterways open and the sound can be heard throughout the high desert.

Join Kathy and Fino for an immersive workshop on spring wellness as we explore the lymphatic system. We will discuss the anatomy of the lymph and introduce herbal approaches to lymphatic health and why it is compatible with movement and touch. Kathy will workshop manual lymphatic drainage and together we will learn techniques to properly drain the lymph.

The lymphatic system is a river that moves throughout our body, clearing silt and debris on it’s way. In a physical way it interplays with the immune system, the health of our blood (proper drainage), and the repair of tissues and organs. Our lymphatic system holds the intelligence which responds to inflammation. The networks of our lymph run throughout our entire body and therefore relate to deep energetic boundaries in an emotional and spiritual way. Participants will leave class with a deeper understanding of the lymphatic system and ways to support our lymph with both herbs and touch.

A nourishing broth will be provided - but bring your own water and snacks!

SPRING FEVER: remedies for the manic itch & winds of change

SPRING FEVER: remedies for the manic itch & winds of change

SPRING FEVER: remedies for the manic itch & winds of change

Sunday May 14th from 11am-1pm (MST) / online class on zoom

spring has sprung and the buzz is in the air. the winds of change come with a burst through the cold, damp, darkness of winter and deliver color, growth, and regeneration. It’s often bright and green with dynamic weather patterns and dynamic beauty. The energy of spring can be sudden and almost shocking to both the emotional and physical body.

During Springtime I often find myself leaning heavily on herbal allies for grounding into this change. This seasonal shift can be equally inspiring and energizing as it can be irritating and destabilizing. Many body systems such as the liver and lymph are activated and adjusting to the seasonal changes while emotionally we move from the stillness, restfulness, and possible depression of winter into a more hyperactive energy of growth and inspiration.

Oftentimes this reaction to change can manifest as mania, mood swings, anxiety, overwhelm, and stress which can lead to burnout or exhaustion. Focusing on nourishing nervous system herbs and grounding essences can help us navigate these inner stirrings.

In this class we will explore herbs for balancing these extraordinary shifts in our inner and outer world. This class’ focus is mainly on mental health, manic or hyperactive tendencies, and herbal & essence guides for soothing, grounding, and channeling this energy. We will also talk about supporting body systems that tend to get irritated by springtime shifts such as the liver/digestion (think pollen allergies) and light lymph as a guide to help us go with the flow.

Things to note:

being with what is: learning and loving california native plants

being with what is offers us a moment, a day of wonderment, learning, communicating, caring amongst plants.

living in the santa monica mountains for five years and the big sur coastal mountains for another five i was able to connect deeply and really learn to love and be with the plants around me. this class is an offering of deepening connections to the plants and land around us, deepen our familiarity, our kinship and our innate belonging on earth. a lesson in not taking on stolen lands, but giving by being with, listening, and spending time in community letting the plants into our hearts and healing together.

this is an all day (4-4.5 hour) in person class, location TBA in topanga canyon or malibu depending on blooms. we will learn or continue to meditate and deepen our communication skills with plants and more than human beings. we will do deep reflecting together and introspectively. we will learn the names of the plants around us through an educational plant walk. we will go deeper with them and invite them in and share intimate moments. we will learn about sharing vibrational energies through flower essences and make a collective essence together, expanding on collaborative practices that aren’t relying on taking.

this class will happen rain or shine. if it does rain we will pivot, potentially working with essences inside. since i am coming from out of state, there will be no refunds. sliding scale and payment plans available - please email me at sssnakeroot@gmail.com to inquire.

access needs: asl available if given a week in advance notice, will require hiking maybe a mile or two max on uneven ground with lots of stops to look and notice, will be sitting on ground but i could carry a light camping chair if provided.

It’s Only Natural: Herbs 4 Queer Lives

march 22 2023 from 4-6pm (MDT) <3 on zoom!

its in our nature to be gay because nature is so inherently gay. this classes intention is to share some joyful and resilient herbal offerings to help strengthen connection to our queer bodies, spirits, selves. as we face violence in the dominant culture through healthcare, mental health, education systems, living life… herbs and essences offer us support in resiliency and strength to both fall apart and come back together in celebrated wholeness.

in this class we will cover:

 • herbs for gender / euphoria / dysphoria / in between places

 • herbs to support PTSD/trauma/mental health

 • herbs for protection, taking up space, and queer joy

just an fyi that we won’t go into physical HRT support so much in this class. we will be focusing mostly on the emotional/spiritual energetics and physical support in the mental health realm (ie, stress, anxiety, hyper vigilance , etc). as people oftentimes experiencing oppression, violence and marginalization we already share much folk-knowledge of our bodies and ways to survive from generations before and ahead. this class aims to remind us of our web of support from all kingdoms (animal, mineral, plant, stars) - and provide us with tools of connection.

class will be recorded & recording sent out

sliding scale / pay what you can : email me at sssnakeroot@gmail.com . unfortunately i haven’t figured out how to add different prices on the site from $0-20 and how to organize emails for zoom links without having you email me. i apologize as i think it’s annoying to have to ask for a pay what you can class.

ASL gladly available upon request 5 day notice required! zoom captioning provided.

NOTE:

this class is a repeat from a class i hosted last may - i feel compelled to offer it again as I see my queer community’s posts and reposts in response to everything thats happening in the so called US (and honestly around the world) , right now with anti-LGBQT esp trans legislation & gender essentialism.

this class offering is a response to this complete and total BS in helping provide a container for both falling apart and accessing support + also building resiliency through gender affirming plant spirits, nervous system support, and more.

Unyielding Love: heartbreak , grief, moving through loss, loneliness and building lasting connections with the animate world

longing, loss, loneliness can be unbearable feelings, felt to our core and deeply radiating through our bodies. grief is a divergent river taking us on a journey of the past, present, and sometimes future. in these places we are oh so vulnerable, we have are cracked wide open - and when we are cracked wide open like this we have access to so much inside of ourselves that is wanting tending and support. loneliness and lack of physical connection can bring up so much inside of us around longing, lust, sadness, isolation, and more.

in this conversation we will talk about herbs & essences for heartbreak, grief, and loneliness. tools for coping, tools for moving the energy along the wild and beautiful waters of grief. we will also discuss the ways we are never alone, how dependent we are on other species, microbes, beings - and how to connect in with that web of life and interdependence. how to find belonging and kinship in lonely moments.

PANDEMIC GRIEVANCES: pandemic fatigue, long covid, grief, and depression

PANDEMIC GRIEVANCES: pandemic fatigue, long covid, grief, and depression

TUESDAY may 17th from 4-6pm MDT<3 on zoom!

three years into a pandemic that has taken countless lives and all we have seen from the guys in charge post lifted mask mandates is a diagnoses in the DSM named “prolonged grief disorder” as an attempt to contextualize and label our grief, give us a timeline, and pathologize an empathic response to something so globally traumatic and that which our culture is continually refusing to acknowledge . (wow longwinded sentence i hope this makes sense).

year three of a pandemic which has exposed the blatant disregard for immunocompromised, disabled, brown, black, indigenous, elder, and poor bodies. valuing the individual over community and collective care. subbing regard for life with eugenics-y harmful rhetorics and overly self centered arguments around “self care” and survival.

i was talking to a friend today about my recovery from long covid. i told her that i feel mostly normal now - but i think i still might feel some effects. what i do know is that i have experienced long term effects from the pandemic and everything it has contained including grief, the pandemic time warp, isolation, covid itself, and more.

in this class we will explore covid feels through both class discussion and teachings of plant.s and essences to help with the emotional, spiritual, and physical effects of the pandemic. we will cover long covid symptoms and treatment for more of the most common / minor-moderate symptoms (keeping in mind remedies work from person to person and to consult with a health care practitioner if symptoms such as pain, erratic heart beat, inability to breath, etc persist ). there are countless long covid symptoms and with omicron as the new variant and studies showing that 10-30% of folks with omicron are likely to develop long covid is concerning!

we will go deeply into the grief and depression of pandemic times. the stasis and continuation of isolation for some while others continue on “back to normal” etc. the dragging on of instability and not knowing. the paranoia of getting sick especially for folks who already experience chronic pain and illness.

recording will be available but keep in mind there may be some break out groups so the recording might not reflect the 2 hour class time.

keep in mind i will be on mountain time, not pacific standard time as usual!
